Question: How risky is getting tattooed?

Answer: Tattooing is perfectly safe when done by a trained, professional, and knowledgeable tattooist. When checking out where you want to get your Tattoo done (hopefully it’s here), look for the following… disposable gloves, new needles, barrier films, hard surface disinfectant, handwashing areas with antibacterial soap, and the general cleanliness of the studio. Remember, it’s your tattoo, it’s your health, it’s your life, and ultimately, it’s YOUR responsibility. Getting tattooed by someone who does not practice methods for safe tattooing can get you really sick. How sick? How about Hepatitis, TB, Staph and fungal infections, and that’s just part of a list. At ‘Positive Ink Tattoos’ we’re concerned about your overall well-being at all levels. We practice Safe Tattooing Methods in order that you can have a ‘Positive Tattooing Experience and Environment’.

Question: What can I expect to pay for my Tattoo?

Answer: Tattoo pricing has much to do with the overall type of work that you’re getting. Smaller tattoos are generally priced up-front, based on the amount of work the design will take to complete. On Large-scale custom work it can either be priced up-front or priced by the hour, and this is negotiated with your artist. Sit down with Craig, he’ll not only design your Tattoo with you, but will work out the costs with you as well.

Question: How about my Prescription Medications and Getting Tattooed?

Answer: First, we recommend you speak to your doctor before getting any tattoos if you are taking any medications. Use some common sense here, if you are on blood pressure medication, or are at risk for anything associated with heart problems, you should talk to your doctor. From our experience, it is best to not get tattooed while taking oral antibiotics, due to the antibiotics working overtime trying to expel any foreign bodies that are introduced. In other words, wait until you’re off the antibiotics, then come back to us and get your Tattoo.

Question: How much does it hurt?

Answer: Sorry to be be vague, but the answer is it’s different for everyone and it’s generally never as bad as people expect. The sensation is similar to a cat scratch, and the tattoo feels kind of bruised and burns for a few days afterward. Also, it generally hurts the most in the first 15-20 minutes, then you get used to it. The more you relax, the easier it is.

Question: Can I bring my own design?

Answer: Yes, we can work from any reference you bring to us, or use one of the many we can show you at our Shop. We’ve had people brings us pictures, magazines, greeting cards, t-shirts, and even fabric to show us a design they wanted us to Tattoo. You can even give us a sketch (no matter how sketchy). From there, we can talk about size, area, style, budget, and then you can turn us loose. Good artists like myself put a lot of effort into developing our own styles and we all prefer to “do our own thing”. The most important thing though is that you get the Tattoo you wanted and we want you to be proud when you wear it.
